MacDirect Mac is the structural timber of choice for architects, designers, builders and home owners for its aesthetic qualities, durability and strength. Macrocarpa/Cypress is increasingly popular for "exposed" decorative beams and posts or for wall framing.
MacDirect can produce beams of your choice up to 8.5mtrs long in both #1 Structural VSG6 and SG8 (conditions apply. We also create laminated beams for special projects. Contact us for more information.

Beams charged on a selected length bases

Bandsawn (BS4S) or dressed (D4S) finish.

MacDirect grades all beams as No.1 structural grade, giving a strength rating of VSG6. MacDirect also stress tests framing and beams to meet SG8 standards.

Heart Macrocarpa is rated as similar natural durability as H3.1 treated pine.

Not recommended for in-ground use.

For structural use where directly exposed to weather, it is acceptable to use macrocarpa/cypress by requesting a 15 year lifespan. The beam or post needs to be visible for inspection and can be replaced easily. Does not meet 50 years standards for external use under the NZ building code.
